Dr. Sam Alatorre is joining the Riverside Team for a 2-month block in Drumheller! He is a resident physician in Family Medicine & Public Health in Calgary. Sam grew up in Mexico and is fluent in Spanish. He received a warm welcome to Canada through Fort McMurray winters ~15 years ago where he spent three years before moving to YYC for high school, university, and eventually medical training. Before medical school, Sam completed an MPH in Health Policy and worked as a policy analyst with the Public Health Agency of Canada, working closely with Chief Medical Officers of Health during the COVID-
19 pandemic. Sam completed medical school in Calgary and was heavily involved in leadership, advocating to enhance medical education and family medicine recruitment through his role as President of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS). Sam is passionate about full-scope family medicine, rural specialty training, and health systems research and innovation in medical care. Outside of medicine, Sam is a committed tennis player, racket sport lover
and a pretty good bowler. He also loves to unwind with chess, spend time with family and his fiancé Claire, seek out road trips and live music, and enjoy any baked goods. He looks forward to immersing himself in Dinosaur culture and serving the town of Drumheller this Fall!
