About Me
I am a rural generalist physician, clinic owner, and emergency physician practicing longitudinal, comprehensive family medicine and hospital medicine (including emergency, acute care, and continuing care medicine) in Alberta.
I currently serve as Director of the University of Calgary Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (UCLIC), where I have been involved in rural medical education and learner development since 2017. I am also President of the Section of Rural Medicine with the Alberta Medical Association (AMA), advocating at a provincial level for sustainable, accessible, and accountable care in rural and remote communities.
My work sits at the intersection of clinical care, education, and health system design. As a clinic owner, educator, and rural generalist, I see firsthand where our healthcare system functions well - and where breakdowns in access, continuity, and accountability directly impact patients.
I am a strong advocate for:
rural and remote medicine
team-based care grounded in real-world practice
continuity across the patient journey
physician accountability alongside system reform
pragmatic innovation that improves access, not bureaucracy
I believe meaningful healthcare reform requires honest conversations about how care is delivered, not just how it is funded. That includes recognizing the essential role of rural generalists, the importance of community-based practice ownership, and the responsibility clinicians hold within publicly funded systems.
In addition to clinical practice, I remain deeply committed to medical education and mentorship, preparing learners for the realities of modern medicine - including leadership, adaptability, and patient-centered decision-making.
