Booking an Appointment

Type of Appointments

Most appointments are scheduled for 20 minutes. When booking, you will be asked the nature of your visit to ensure we allocate the appropriate amount of time for your needs.

At Riverside Medical, we understand that there are times when health concerns arise suddenly and cannot wait for a scheduled appointment.

If you feel you must see a doctor on an urgent basis, we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Regular Visits

Most visits are regular visits, where patients come to discuss new or existing concerns.

Medication Refills

Fax refill requests from pharmacies are not considered urgent, and can therefore take up to 4 weeks to review to decide if the refill will be provided. Patients requesting refills of medication that have not been previously prescribed by a provider at Riverside Medical will need an in-person appointment to review for any refills.

Preventative Care Visits

These appointments replace the “Annual Physical.” They entail a review of age-appropriate screening, assessments of chronic medical conditions, and focused physical exams. At these appointments, medication renewals can also be addressed.

Well Baby / Well Child Visits

Your primary care provider can be a pediatrician or Rural Generalist. As your child grows and develops, you’ll likely turn to your child’s primary care provider with questions or concerns, and he or she can refer you to a pediatrician if there are complex health conditions to diagnose and support in management.

Chronic Pain Appointments

Pain is a wide spectrum of disorders including acute pain, chronic pain and cancer pain, or sometimes a combination of these. Pain can also arise for many different reasons such as surgery, injury, nerve damage, and metabolic conditions such as diabetes. Occasionally, pain can even be the problem all by itself, without any obvious cause at all. Our team of professionals can help patients learn to better manage their painand daily function. We focus on teaching self-management techniques.

Mental Health

At Riverside Medical, our Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Micaela is available twice a week. Only Riverside Medical Patients can be booked with her. Micaela is Certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Mediation, Mindfulness, Solution focused therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

In-Office Procedures

These may include joint injections, biopsies, prolotherapy, IUDs, and much more.

Driver’s Medical

Your Primary Care Provider can often perform your driver's medical exam, as these are typically done by any Canadian-licensed physician or nurse practitioner, but it's an uninsured service (you pay out-of-pocket or your employer pays) and involves assessing vision, overall health, and cognitive ability for safe driving, especially for commercial drivers or seniors. You will need to bring an updated eye exam from your optometrist to your appointment.

Forms

Forms, notes or other documents will not be completed without at least one booked in-person appointment to review the request, determine if it is appropriate, and if it is, to then initiate our process to complete (including associated costs) which can take up to 4 to 6 weeks to complete depending on the request and responses from any third parties (including insurance companies, CRA, Service Alberta, WCB, patient’s workplace, etc) that are involved.

Hospital Follow-Ups

Hospital follow-ups are crucial because they ensure continuous care, prevent complications like readmissions, coordinate treatment, review medications, and provide essential education and support for a successful recovery, bridging the gap from hospital discharge to full health by monitoring healing and adjusting care as needed.

Foot Care

At Riverside Medical, our Foot Care Nurse, Holly, is available every Thursday to Riverside Medical Patients

Nurse Gina

At Riverside Medical, our LPN, Gina, is available to assist with the following services: Ear flushes, Tarrant swabs, Cryotherapy, Wound care, Suture removal, Diabetic Education and Geriatric assessments
